At last week's workshops we used the gorgeous Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes. These shimmery, lightweight flakes create beautiful effects on card, and we also used them on grey board and MDF shapes.
To apply gilding flakes, you need something sticky! You can use double sided adhesive sheet on a piece of card, then sprinkle on the flakes and gently rub over to smooth them down and make them stick. Large pieces of flake can be just laid on the adhesive to cover a larger area. Once applied gently buff with tissue or a scoochy sponge/piece of rub it-scrub it if needed.
Another way of applying the flakes is using the Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter Glue. This is a special type of glue that stays tacky until it is covered with something. Spread some of the glue on a small piece of sponge and then apply to a piece of card or other surface such as grey board or MDF. Once applied, you need to wait a minute or two for the glue to go tacky. It has a blue tinge when first applied which disappears when ready to use. The flakes can then be added in the same way as above. The surface will stay tacky until the flakes applied so there is no need to rush!
You can also use the sponge to apply the glue to a stamp. When stamping onto card you need to be quick otherwise the card will stick to your stamp! Just give the stamp a gentle press and lift straightaway. The gilding flakes can then be added to the stamped image and buffed away to reveal the image. As you need to be quick and gentle when stamping there is a risk you won't get a perfect image first time, so you do need a bit of patience when stamping with gilding flakes. Well worth the perseverance though as you can get some amazing effects!
Stencils can also be used with gilding flakes in a similar way. Again use your sponge to apply the glue through the stencil, then add the flakes.
